Physical Therapist - Contract Position
Location: Lewiston, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide comprehensive physical therapy services to patients by physician or healthcare provider referral. Work primarily with orthopedic surgical patients, including those who have had joint replacements, following established standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform evaluations and therapeutic procedures under physician orders.
- Develop and implement therapeutic plans of care with functional goals, frequency, and duration.
- Collaborate with patients, caregivers, physicians, and healthcare team members regarding care plans and discharge needs.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
- Document all patient interactions and treatments accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Recommend and instruct patients on appropriate assistive devices.
- Provide patient and caregiver education and document teaching outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with Physical Therapist Assistants and other therapy professionals.
- Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and provide in-service education to staff.
- Assist in developing new physical therapy programs and services.
- Supervise assistant-level staff as appropriate, ensuring compliance with state and professional standards.
- Mentor new staff and act as a clinical instructor for students.
- Maintain department cleanliness and follow infection control procedures.
- Complete operational paperwork and quality improvement activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in the State of Maine.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in physical therapy (based on highest requirement).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under stress.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read, write, understand).
Additional Information
- Orientation up to 16 hours (unpaid).
- The employer may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract.
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the job location.
- After 2 years of experience, PTs are expected to mentor students.
