Hospice RN (Days/Nights) - Montana, Missoula

Employment Details

  • Type: Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Must be willing to work both day and night shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), with possible weekends
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE guaranteed)
  • Work Setting: Primarily inpatient unit with potential support for in-home hospice visits as needed

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care focused on comfort and symptom management for terminally ill patients
  • Administer medications and interventions as ordered by physicians
  • Continuously assess patient needs to ensure a dignified, comfortable end-of-life experience
  • Supervise and delegate nursing support tasks to CNAs, ensuring safety, compassion, and adherence to care plans
  • Monitor CNA documentation for accuracy and completeness; provide mentorship and feedback
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds and contribute to care planning, symptom management, and family education
  • Provide emotional support and education to families and caregivers navigating end-of-life challenges
  • Accurately document nursing assessments, interventions, and communications in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Follow infection control procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Montana or Compact RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in hospice, palliative care, critical care, or medical-surgical nursing
  • Experience working in a unionized healthcare environment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
