Unit Details
- 16-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient ratios typically 1:2, 1:1 for certain device patients
- Unit staffed with charge nurse support, unit secretary, and administrative care tech (M-F 07:30-15:30)
- Student Nurse Externs assist with tech duties on variable shifts
- Equipment includes Phillips bedside telemetry monitors, Hill-Rom beds, and Alaris IV pumps
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Scheduling requires 2 weekends per month and coverage of 1 summer holiday plus 2 winter holidays
- Floating policy: Core/Per Diem employees float as needed, typically to other ICUs or floors
Patient Population and Care
- Immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Care includes management of ECMO, Centrimags, and HM3 LVADs
- Procedures performed on unit: central line insertion, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, intubations
- Advanced hemodynamic monitoring including PA catheter required
- Preferred experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT
- Intensivist coverage 24/7
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficient skills and experience with pulmonary artery (PA) catheter insertion and management
- Skilled in advanced hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
