Ultrasound Tech/Sonographer - Radiology

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 hours (Monday to Thursday)


Unit Information

  • Ultrasound department with 4 ultrasound rooms
  • Staff: 14 total
    • Day shift: 4 sonographers + supervisor
    • Second shift: 1 sonographer after 7:30 PM
    • Night shift: 1 sonographer
  • Patient ratio: 8-10 patients per 8-hour shift
  • Equipment: Siemens Acuson S200 & GE Logiq E10
  • EMR system: Allscripts
  • PACS system: InteleRad
  • Patient population: Pediatric to geriatric

Typical Procedures

  • Thoracentesis, paracentesis, fine needle aspirations (thyroids, parotids, lymph nodes)
  • Soft tissue masses or lymph node biopsies
  • Liver and renal biopsies
  • Drainages (abscesses, cysts, hematomas, gallbladders)
  • Thrombin injections
  • OR procedures including breast needle placements, carotid ultrasounds, D&Cs, prostate biopsies

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Ultrasound Technologist license in New Hampshire
  • Minimum 2 years of Ultrasound Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
  • RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) certification
  • ARRT(S) or ARDMS certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Vascular sonographer experience
  • OB/GYN sonographer experience
  • De-escalation skills in a healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional certifications such as RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist), OB-GYN, or AB (Abdominal)
  • Experience in the OR and with ultrasound-guided procedures
  • At least 1 year of experience beyond education

Scheduling & Policies

  • Monday to Thursday schedule, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend coverage handled by weekend staff; no on-call required for travelers
  • Attendance and PTO policies must be followed
  • All exam protocols must be adhered to
  • Opportunities for extra shifts within the department
  • Dress code: professional, clean scrubs or radiology-themed t-shirts in any color

Additional Notes

  • Floating opportunities available within the department
  • Breast ultrasound opportunities may be available for those with BCC certification

Unit was traveler friendly, staff was very nice and welcoming, felt supported, nice area of the country for exploring

Cons

Nurses do all their own vitals (not sure how that’s even possible on dayshift), limited resources, morale was low due to recent buyout by HCA
