NICU Travel Nurse

Overview

  • Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night, 3x12 hours
  • Hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
  • NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last year
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Epic

Preferred Qualifications

  • PALS
  • Charge experience

Clinical Experience

  • NICU care including developmental care, patient/family teaching, phlebotomy, thermoregulation, blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, isolation/PPE, and sepsis workup
  • Blood and line management including blood products, arterial lines, central/implanted lines, IV starts/maintenance, and UAC/UVC
  • Neonatal medication administration including anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, neonatal dose calculations, steroids, surfactants, and insulin
  • Feeding and GI support including breastfeeding support, breast milk handling, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, NEC care, and oral/NG/NJ tube placement
  • Respiratory support including bubble CPAP, HFNC, chest tubes, oxygen delivery systems, RDS care, ETT/NT suctioning, Vapotherm, and ventilator management
  • EPIC experience required

Schedule and Unit Details

  • Every other weekend required
  • Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, per unit needs
  • Ratios: 1:2 in NICU and 1:3-4 in SCN
  • Unit includes neonates 29–34 weeks and >34 weeks gestation
  • Will not attend high-risk deliveries

Floating

  • Must float within skillset without exception
  • May float to Newborn, Peds, and PICU for appropriate assignments

  • Accepts first-time travelers
  • Locals accepted
  • Housing is available at additional cost
