Respiratory Therapist

Job Overview

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (2 years of experience)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience working with Adult patients

Preferred Qualifications

  • State license
  • NRP
  • PAL
  • Previous Charge experience
  • Teaching Hospital experience
  • Trauma Level 1 experience
  • NICU experience
  • Pediatric Critical Care experience

Key Clinical Skills

  • Extubation
  • Nasal and oral airway placement
  • Nasal, oral, and endotracheal suctioning
  • Pulmonary hygiene
  • Sputum specimen collection
  • Tracheostomy care and management
  • Aerosol therapy setup and delivery
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula
  • BiPAP
  • CPAP
  • Troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
  • Weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Arterial blood gas interpretation

Schedule and Assignment Details

  • 4 days of unit orientation
  • Floating between campuses may be required
  • Must be available to commit to 4 shifts per month
  • First-time travelers are accepted

Additional Notes

  • Epic charting is used
  • Pyxis medication system is used
  • Navy blue scrubs and lab coat are required
  • Previous permanent employees must have a 1-year separation period
  • Medical and religious exemptions are allowed
  • COVID vaccination is preferred but not required

Pros

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair

Very large unit so hard to get to know everyone/find people to help sometimes
