Travel Registered Nurse (Step Down)
Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights
- Patient Ratios: Up to 1:6
- Unit Size: 22 beds/rooms
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Registered Nursing (preferred)
- Prior travel experience required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- SAMA (Stroke Advanced Management Accreditation)
Additional certifications may be required as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, MAB, CPI).
Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
- Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Background & Documentation Requirements
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, education verification)
- Employment application and resume required
- 7-year work history verification
- Unit-specific skills checklist annually
- Photo for badge
- Orientation packet review and signed acknowledgement prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown unit
- PCU or Stepdown experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification
- SAMA certification
Additional Notes
- UT does not contract travelers residing in certain Texas counties (e.g., Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, etc.)
- Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only (not applicable here)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams and color blindness testing may be required as applicable
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with prior travel experience looking to work night shifts in a step-down unit setting.
