Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Mission Viejo, California

Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Floating Expectation: May float to the Laguna Facility
  • Patient Ratios: 1:25
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years acute medical care manager experience performing care coordination
  • Travel Experience: Required (no first-timers accepted)
  • Weekend Requirement: Weekend rotation required
  • Licensing: California state license required; pending license accepted but must be active by start date
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Scrub Color: Turquoise or Business Casual
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation equivalent)
  • BLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation equivalent)
  • PALS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation equivalent)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification from AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (AWHONN or NCC-EFM) if required by unit
  • IV Certification (for LVN/LPN/Other as applicable)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification (if required)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (renewed every 2 years)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification (if required)
  • State License (valid California RN license)
  • NURSYS Verification for RN license

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education Verification (3rd party) for nursing degree or related education
  • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search for WA placements)
  • Transcript/Diploma (only if international education)
  • Social Security Card and Government-Issued Photo ID required
  • I9 Attestation required
  • E-Verify Attestation required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) required for travel starts after 2/5/2024, updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or declination during flu season (9/1–3/30)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance (RespSafety) for travel starts after 2/5/2024, updated annually

Competency & Skills Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Competency Exams as required by specialty
  • Color Blind Testing if required by unit (minimum 80% score)
  • Skills Checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • Medication Aide exam for CNAs with LTC specialty at specific Oregon Assisted Living facilities

Employment History & References

  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors) with month/year format
  • Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
  • References must be from supervisors; charge RNs acceptable if they directly supervised

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Floating policy acknowledgement (may float to other Providence facilities nearby)
  • Badge photo (passport style with neutral background) required
  • Completion of Providence WorkRamp Core and Specialty Modules prior to start, assigned by region and specialty
  • Epic Access training modules required for SoCal and certain other regions (Per Diem only)
  • Providence System TB Questionnaire completed prior to start and updated annually

Notes

  • Candidates must have active CA RN license by start date
  • Travel experience is mandatory; no first-time travelers accepted
  • Weekend rotation is required
  • Floating to other facilities within the system may be required
  • All certifications and background checks must be current and compliant with Providence Health and Services policies
  • Health and immunization requirements must be met prior to start
  • Completion of required training modules is mandatory before starting assignment

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with acute care coordination experience who are comfortable with travel assignments, weekend rotations, and floating within a hospital system in California.
