Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

Patient population: Mixed med/surg and intermediate care patients
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment
Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts, days only
Travel radius: 50 miles (no local candidates)

Required Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience preferred in specialty (Registered Nurse, Medical Surgical)
Prior travel experience not required

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation and Compliance

7-year background check (updated annually) including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, and education verification
Education verification (highest level)
Fingerprinting (for New Mexico placements only)
Photo for badge
Physical exam within 12 months of start
Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
TB questionnaire (if applicable)
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination/declination
Varicella immunity or vaccination
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (10/01 - 03/31)

Competency Requirements

Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (80% minimum or Angoff score)
Color blind testing (online acceptable)
Competency exams as applicable to profession (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
Annual unit-specific skills checklist
Core HIPAA and safety training

Additional Notes

No local candidates; must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius
References and work history verification required internally but not mandatory for clearance
