Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Patient population: Mixed med/surg and intermediate care patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment
  • Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts, days only
  • Travel radius: 50 miles (no local candidates)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred in specialty (Registered Nurse, Medical Surgical)
  • Prior travel experience not required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • I9 verification
  • Driver’s License/State ID
  • E-Verify compliance
  • 7-year background check (updated annually) including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, and education verification
  • Education verification (highest level)
  • Fingerprinting (for New Mexico placements only)
  • Photo for badge
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire (if applicable)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination/declination
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (10/01 - 03/31)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (80% minimum or Angoff score)
  • Color blind testing (online acceptable)
  • Competency exams as applicable to profession (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Annual unit-specific skills checklist
  • Core HIPAA and safety training

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates; must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius
  • References and work history verification required internally but not mandatory for clearance
  • Complete application/resume required

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of medical-surgical experience, comfortable working in a mixed med/surg and intermediate care setting, with Epic system experience, and who is flexible with day shifts and travel within the specified radius.
