Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - SICU

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• High acuity ICU environment
• Patient ratio: 1:2
• Float requirement to other ICUs and Step-Down Units (SDUs)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required
• Preferred experience with PA catheters and balloon pumps
• No block scheduling requests accepted

ICU Subspecialty Skills:

• CVICU: Care for post-op CABG, valve replacement/repair, aortic dissection, IABP, PA catheter
• SICU: General post-op care for surgical recovery patients
• Transplant Recovery: Liver, heart, lungs, kidney, pancreas
• Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Emergency Team Assignment

• Upon starting, may be assigned to an Emergency Team with expectation to stay onsite until event passes or be part of relief team during emergency events.

Required Certifications

• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIH Certification

Required Licenses and Documents

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and Education Verification as applicable
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (as applicable)
  • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella immunity verification
  • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination series
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)

Additional Requirements

• Skills checklist updated annually
• Competency exam specific to specialty, minimum 80%, updated annually
• Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, recent within 6 months
• May require fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification not required for ICU specialties

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
• Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
• Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) (CVICU)
• Experience with pulmonary artery (PA) catheter (CVICU)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIH Certification

• Must be comfortable with potential emergency team assignments requiring extended onsite presence during emergency events
• Float to other ICUs and step-down units expected

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with high acuity patients, flexible scheduling, and emergency response duties.
