Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location
- Charlottesville, Virginia

- Travel/Contract
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend and every other holiday off
- No return to office (RTO) allowed on 5/25 and 7/4
- Unit uses a self-scheduling model; manager will explain but desired schedule is not guaranteed
Work Environment
- Children's hospital
- Unit includes Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal history within 60 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
- HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
- Education verification through a third-party vendor (official transcripts required; photocopies not accepted)
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit; facility will notify if needed
- Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for certain units (not applicable here unless assigned to those units)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands (Aya form preferred)
- Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (no exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or negative surface antibody and antigen titers (no declinations)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but must be documented)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
- Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Various facility-specific forms and compliance documents must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units; not required for NICU
- Self-scheduling model on unit; manager will provide details but schedule preferences are not guaranteed
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
