Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in a large, busy Emergency Department (Non-Trauma) with high acuity patients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics.
  • Patient volume: 59-bed ER averaging 165-175 patients per day.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
  • Shift: Evening, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1:00 PM – 1:00 AM).
  • Unit uses Epic electronic health record system (Epic experience required) and Pyxis medication system.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days.
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend.
  • Floating is rare but may be required within facility and scope of practice.
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, must work it; if 2, must work both; if 3, must work 2 of them. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Completion of 3 or more travel nursing assignments.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Screening

  • Full compliance with all onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week start delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling.
  • Clinical screening will be conducted to determine clinical fit before final manager approval.
  • Background check required within 30 days prior to start, including education verification and national criminal searches.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC. Instant drug screen acceptable.
  • Physical exam required within 12 months of start.
  • Annual Nursys license verification required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Color blindness test required; alternative assessment available if needed.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required.
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Work history verification and 2 clinical references required.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or negative chest x-ray if previously positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
  • Flu vaccination or declination required annually during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
  • Dress and professional appearance policy must be reviewed and acknowledged prior to start.
  • Code of conduct must be reviewed and signed prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced ER travel nurses with strong Epic skills and multiple prior ER travel assignments, ready to work in a high-volume, high-acuity environment.
