Registered Nurse - PCU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 7:15)

Job Description

• Patient Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse role with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Float pool position: no home unit assignment; floating between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed.
• Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination).
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed.
• First-time travel nurses accepted.
• No on-call requirement.
• Local candidates accepted.
• No pending license accepted.
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days.
• Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Certification in National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
• Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois.
• Primary source verification of professional nursing license required.
• NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses.
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP). Must not expire during assignment.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask (N95) testing required annually.
• Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap every 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Negative TB screening (2-step PPD or equivalent) within 1 year of start or signed questionnaire if history positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1).
• Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
• Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
• Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually. Includes medication/pharmacology competency and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam. Oncology competency exam required if assigned to oncology units.

• Must be able to float within scope of practice to multiple units and campuses.
• No prior travel experience required.
• References: Two professional references required; supervisors preferred if within last year.
