Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 7:15)
Average Daily Census: 29 patients
Unit Size: 30 beds/rooms

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit with cardiac telemetry monitoring.
• Patient population includes general intermediate care with conditions such as sepsis, infection, wounds, CHF, cardiac arrhythmias, AMI, CVA/TIA, altered mental status, ETOH withdrawal, suicidal ideation, post-op care, orthopedic, urology procedures, and GI bleed.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of rapid response/code teams, feeding tube care, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starts and maintenance, heparin protocols, cardiac drips (no titration), PCA, tracheostomy care, isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac, surgical drains, chest tubes, and oxygen delivery devices including high flow nasal cannula.
• Must be able to float within the service line and to sister facilities as needed.
• Weekend requirement: 4-6 shifts every 6 weeks.
• Locals not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility.
• No on-call required.
• Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Direct Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care, or Stepdown units.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug screening within 1 year of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP; must not expire during assignment.
• Fit mask (N95) testing required annually; must be able to pass fit test or shave facial hair as needed.
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or equivalent)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1).
• Annual review and signing of facility policies including hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code, confidentiality, latex allergy questionnaire, and HIPAA acknowledgment.

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license) required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required prior to start.
• Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri).
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) and Highway Patrol checks as applicable.
• Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred).
• Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start.
• Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).

• No on-call required.
• Floating within service line and to sister facilities as needed.
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days.
