Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description

  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care to pediatric patients from birth up to 18 years of age.
  • Patients aged 18-25 may also receive care in the Short Stay Unit (SSU) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) depending on diagnosis and team agreement.
  • Work schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (8:00 AM – 8:30 PM), variable days Monday through Friday, with possible call on weekends and nights.
  • Specialty areas include care related to:
    • Cardiothoracic surgery and Cardiology
    • Dental, Dermatology, Endoscopy, Gastroenterology
    • General Surgery, Hematology and Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmic, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery
    • Organ transplant, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Plastics
    • Podiatry, Urology

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), specifically pediatric PACU (Post Anesthetic Care).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Compliance and Screening Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day.
  • Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and National Sex Offender Search.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel test including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start, laboratory-based and processed through a SAMHSA-certified lab.
  • Education verification required (primary source). BSN preferred.
  • Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position.
  • References and work history verifications must be initiated within 24 hours of contract signing.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test (2 Step-PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD) within 12 months prior to start; TB questionnaire required regardless of TB results.
  • Immunity or vaccination (or signed declination) required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (full vaccine series or immune titer)
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap preferred)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required by December 1, 2025.
  • Fit mask testing required within one year prior to start (specific mask types mandated).

Additional Information

  • Medication override test and other orientation materials will be provided but are not required before start.
  • Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until their start date; any planned unavailability must be communicated in advance.
  • Facility professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
