Job Opportunity: EP Lab Registered Nurse
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Work in an Electrophysiology (EP) Lab with an average daily census of 15 cases.
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour day shifts (7:30 AM – 6:00 PM), totaling 40 hours/week.
- Participate in a late team schedule: assigned at least one "1st late" and one "2nd late" shift weekly.
- May be required to stay late to help meet 40 hours if caseload ends early; overtime is possible but not expected.
- Must be comfortable providing conscious sedation during procedures.
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Teams and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Possible mid-contract consolidation and reassignment to different units as needed.
Specialty Skills & Procedures
Electrophysiology Lab procedures including:
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Laser Assisted Procedures
- Permanent and Temporary Pacemaker Insertion
- Watchman device procedures
- Arrhythmia Induction and Cardiac Ablation
- Cardiac Mapping and Conduction Studies
- Insertion/Programming of AICDs
- Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure
- Room circulator and scrub roles maintaining sterile field and technique
- Accurate monitoring and equipment setup
- EKG lead placement and access site preparation
- Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
Special procedures include: Ablations (VT, PVI, CV, A-Flutter, AV Node), ICD/Pacer placement and exchanges, Laser Lead Extraction, Lead extraction, LAAO.
Special equipment used: PFA, Cryo, ESI, IVUS, Cardio Lab systems, EPIC (CUPID).
Unit systems: Pyxis medication system, SBAR communication, EPIC documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum of 3 years of Electrophysiology Lab experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Comfortable providing conscious sedation during procedures.
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: approximately 30 hours.
- Scrubs provided.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 6 months prior to start.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; additional documentation required if past positive TB.
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards.
- Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency must be completed within 72 hours of start.
- Medication safety training and annual compliance training required.
- Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
- Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required.
- Additional facility-specific education modules and safety training required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must provide interview availability within 72 hours of submission.
- Contract staff may be required to respond to emergency situations including storms or disasters.
- Candidates must complete a corporate ID setup and log into the learning system within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid delays.
