Registered Nurse – MS/Tele Float (Travel/Contract)

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Overview

• Float position primarily on Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit with a required willingness to float to a sister facility (~25 minutes away) with lower acuity patients.
• Unit patient populations include Infectious Disease, Hospice/Palliative Care, Oncology, Cardiac Acute/Med Care, Post-Surgical, Bariatric, Urology, Neurology, and Orthopedics.
• Patient ratio experience required: 1:6.
• No first-time travelers or local hires accepted for this assignment.
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend, with 12 weekend shifts per contract.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Arizona.
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 1.5 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• One completed travel nursing assignment.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.

Certifications & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or Red Cross.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or American Red Cross.
• Pass/Fail Testing on EKG and Medication during orientation (passing score 80%+).
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%+).
• HIPAA competency, updated annually with passing score 80%+.
• Acknowledgment of Pass/Fail Testing required for MS/Tele units.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.

Health & Background Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA.
• Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR allowed onsite).
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declinations allowed except for select pediatric and maternity units).
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations).
  • Varicella (proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations).
  • Hepatitis B (proof of vaccination or positive titer; declinations allowed with signed form).
• Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Gold, Tspot, or PPD) within 3 months of start; chest x-ray if positive TB test.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form.
• Drug testing (12-panel) must be completed within 30 days of start.
• Background checks including 7-year history, county/state searches, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG must be completed within 30 days of start.

Documentation & History

• Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
• Two professional references from employment within last 3 years, including one supervisory reference.
• Skills checklist updated annually.
• Facility-specific job description and orientation sign-off required.
• Traveler welcome letter must be signed prior to start.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be willing to float between units and facilities as needed.
• No first-time travel nurses or local hires accepted for this role.
• Orientation includes an open book EKG test and pass/fail assessments; failure to pass after remediation may result in contract cancellation.
