ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Marrero, Louisiana
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Float between SCU (Step-Down Care Unit), NCU (Neuro Care Unit), and CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) with no specific unit assignment.
• Must be willing to float to the Emergency Department to care for cardiac admits.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
• No call requirement.
• Scrubs color: Navy.

Patient Population & Clinical Focus

• Patients include neuro/stroke cases, vascular surgeries, multi-level back surgeries, and general critical care patients.
• No CABG or ECMO patients.
• Special procedures include fresh post-op craniotomies, ventilator settings, arterial lines, central lines, NIH stroke evaluations, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) managed by RN.
• Equipment experience required: ventilators, external ventricular drain (EVD) management, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, lumbar drains, bolts/ICP O2 monitoring, CRRT.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including social security trace, sex offender, federal checks, and others; must be updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required by facility but required by placement agency).
• Immunizations and testing:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions and declinations accepted with documentation
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date).

Additional Notes

• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days.
• Medication and clinical competency exams must be current and updated annually.
• Candidate must be prepared to work night shifts and float across multiple critical care units.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

This position is ideal for an experienced ICU RN with neuro experience who is flexible and comfortable working in a dynamic critical care environment with a variety of patient populations and specialized equipment.
