PICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Columbus, Ohio
Job Overview
- Position: PICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Responsibilities
- Float to multiple units as needed: NICU, Cardiovascular PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical.
- Must comply with facility float expectations and be willing to accept assignments in these areas.
Required Qualifications
- License: Ohio State or Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Experience:
- Highly preferred 2 years of PICU experience.
- Recent level 1 PICU experience required.
- First-time travelers considered with closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
- References:
- 2 supervisory or managerial professional references required (Charge RN acceptable for one).
- At least 1 supervisor or manager titled reference must be submitted.
- Peer references are not acceptable.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Current government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license and certifications.
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search and education verification.
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if needed.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start; must be updated for each new contract.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Sex offender, Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry searches required within 30 days of start.
- Official transcript if education verification is incomplete.
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually.
- Copy of resume or employment application required.
Certifications (Must be AHA or equivalent, name must exactly match RN license)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) as applicable
- National or state-required technical certifications as applicable
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (facility accepts signed Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical copy).
- N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start; must be updated annually.
- TB testing options:
- 2 PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days), or
- QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months (IGRA acceptable if no TB signs or international travel).
- For positive TB results, additional documentation and treatment required.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start.
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B declination, completed vaccine series, or positive titer.
- Varicella positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal.
- Flu vaccine required between October 31 and May 31; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval.
- TB Questionnaire and Fingerprint Screening Questions must be completed prior to start.
- Fit test documentation and fingerprinting proof must be completed within required timeframes.
