Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: San Francisco, California

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care demonstrating knowledge of evidence-based practice, pathophysiology, pharmacology, regulatory issues, and disease processes relevant to the service line.
• Perform clinical procedures including IV insertion, Foley catheter care, and wound dressings.
• Deliver effective patient and family education.
• Utilize telemetry monitoring, ventilators, and administer medications safely.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition promptly.
• Act as a patient advocate and model safety behaviors.
• Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Maintain professional appearance and complete assigned duties timely.

Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
• Weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirement

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check including social security trace, county searches, sex offender registry, and education verification.
• FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
• Education verification required; BSN preferred but not mandatory.
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
• TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD testing with annual renewal.
• Immunizations and/or titers required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually; accommodations considered for religious exemptions or failed tests.
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually.

Additional Requirements

• Complete unit-specific skills checklist annually.
• Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; verification required.
• Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical acute care candidates.
• Required to review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
• Must complete TB questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start.
• Onsite EKG exam required after start for ICU and telemetry/medical-surgical RNs at this location.
