ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift initially (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) with plan to transition to day shift after about one month
- Unit: Surgical ICU (SICU) with trauma and transplant patients
- Patient Acuity: High acuity, busy hospital environment
- Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
- Charting System: Epic
- Float Requirement: Must float to other adult ICUs and stepdown units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid Massachusetts RN license
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience with required SICU experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Testing: Must pass a pass/fail telemetry test at orientation on first attempt (only one attempt allowed)
- Travel Experience: Accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience not required)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background check including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, national and state checks, education verification
- Statewide Massachusetts iCORI clearance within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification of highest completed education (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions
- Drug testing within 30 days prior to start (specific drug panels required)
- Immunizations or valid declinations for:
- COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
- Flu seasonal vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B
- TB testing: Two PPDs (one within 90 days, one within one year) or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days; positive TB requires chest X-ray and facility-specific questionnaire
- References: Two references within three years of start date
- Employment application covering 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually as applicable
Additional Notes
- This position involves working with Level I Trauma patients; candidates with Level I Trauma experience and previous travel experience may be prioritized but are not required
- The telemetry exam is required only for RNs working in telemetry-monitored units (including Labor & Delivery); not required for this SICU position
- Candidates must pass medication and pharmacology competency exams at orientation with a minimum score of 80% to avoid cancellation
- Floating to other units may include adult ICUs and stepdown units, requiring flexibility
- The hospital requires compliance with various facility-specific declinations and documentation policies, especially for immunizations and infectious disease screenings
