Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department and other stepdown/PCU units.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a medication administration exam (SafeMedicate).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS Stroke Certification (must be current and from approved providers)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID) must be carried on assignment.
  • Background checks including:
    • FCRA-compliant 7-year criminal history search
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM monthly checks
    • HHS/OIG monthly checks
    • FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 12 months, updated annually (must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing).
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunization and health requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Annual flu vaccination required (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start date.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start (completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be done on a phone).
  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required competency and safety acknowledgments.

  • Candidates with a break in employment greater than 6 months at this facility may need to repeat orientation and onboarding modules.
  • Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
