Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Summary

• Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics
• Unit census: 32 rooms, average daily census of 29
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Unit uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR systems
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
• Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
• Call: None
• Holiday work expectations:

  • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
  • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
  • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work two
• Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
• Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days
• RTO blackout dates: Spring Break (April 4th–12th)
• Compliance with all onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Experience in Charge Nurse roles preferred
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) required prior to start
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification, and other certifications may be required depending on specialty/unit (verify per unit description)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by agency (not client)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and related units; up to 3 attempts allowed before cancellation
• Color blind testing required; alternative assessment available if needed
• Annual NURSYS license verification required within 30 days prior to start

Health & Background Requirements

• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start (agency requirement)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:

  • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or negative chest x-ray if prior positive
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters may pend if not eligible at start
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters may pend if not eligible at start
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
  • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
• Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification and criminal history
• Two clinical references required by agency
• Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
• Verification of most recent employer required (can be pending at start with proof of processing)
