Cytotechnologist Travel/Contract Position

Location: Huntington, West Virginia

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Day shift, 8-hour shifts)
• No weekend requirement

Job Description

• Perform microscopic evaluation and screening of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens
• Process specimens using ThinPrep and related cytology methodologies
• Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities
• Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and handling
• Assist with fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures and Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) when applicable
• Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare providers to support accurate and timely diagnoses
• Maintain compliance with laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

• Valid Cytotechnologist license in West Virginia
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist, including experience within the last year
• Current ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification
• ThinPrep Imager certification

Preferred Qualifications

• ROSE (Rapid On-Site Evaluation) adequacy experience
• Experience with ascitic, gastric, esophageal, spinal, respiratory, and urinary cytology specimens
• FNA smear preparation and staining
• Flow Cytometry
• FISH testing
• Special stains and ancillary testing

Facility & Environment

• Community hospital laboratory supporting both inpatient and outpatient services
• Multidisciplinary approach to patient care

Required Certifications & Compliance

• ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification
• Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as required
• Facility-specific orientation, safety, confidentiality, and compliance training must be completed prior to or shortly after start
• Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances
• Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Onsite N95 fit testing (clean-shaven required for males)
• Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Hepatitis A, B, C (including declination forms if applicable)
  • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
• Seasonal flu vaccination required (with approved medical or religious exemptions)
• COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; declination form required if opting out

• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Completed employment application/resume
• Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
• Facility-specific forms including confidentiality agreement, respiratory protection policy, vaccine exemption forms, and IT access agreement must be completed before start

Notes

• First-time travel Cytotechnologists are accepted for this position
• Located in a city with a low cost of living, outdoor recreation, and access to the Appalachian Mountains
