Job Description

• Experience with trauma surgical patients and abdominal transplant patients in a Level 1 trauma center, teaching facility, or high-volume facility.
• Preferred experience with telemetry, wound care, fracture care, post-surgical skills, traction, and patient mobility.
• Familiarity with drips such as insulin and heparin.
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kentucky
• Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card
• Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 1 trauma patients
• Experience with trauma surgical patients
• Experience with abdominal transplant patient population
• Experience in a Level 1 trauma center, teaching facility, or high-volume facility
• Experience with telemetry
• Experience with fracture care
• Experience with traction
• Trauma experience

• Experience with trauma surgical and abdominal transplant patients as noted.
• Higher years of specialty experience should be met if specified by recruiter or facility.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Background and Health Requirements

Background Checks

• County Criminal Background Search (last 7 years).
• National Criminal and Sex Offender Search.
• FACIS III.
• Education Verification or signed official transcript/diploma.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
• Other facility-specific background checks as required.

Health Documents

• Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
• Immunizations and titers: TDAP (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or series or declination).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire annually.
• Drug testing within 1 year, updated annually.
• Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required annually (medical/religious exemptions accepted).
• COVID vaccination or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references verified within 6 months of start.
• Employment application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days.
• Employment verification for the last 7 years.
• Annual skills checklists and competency renewals.
• Facility-specific policies and agreements must be signed prior to start.

Summary

This is a travel contract RN position in a progressive care unit requiring strong trauma and surgical patient care experience, multiple certifications, and compliance with extensive background and health documentation. Candidates must be prepared for rigorous competency testing and ongoing certification renewals throughout the contract.
