Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Unit Beds: 18
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Patient Types:
- Open heart, complex thoracic and vascular surgery patients
- Patients supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO
- Advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs
- Complex cases from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
Required Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 1 year experience with CVICU patient population
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Must be able to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics
Clinical & Unit Details
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (no telemetry techs on unit)
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.)
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignment
- No CNAs or patient care techs on unit
- Hospitalists and Intensivists in-house 24/7
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 (12-hour shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other or as needed
- Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submittal
- Radius rule: Candidate must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- RN skills exam during orientation: Open book, must score 90% or higher to continue employment
- No call or standby requirement

This CVICU RN role requires a minimum of 1 year of specialized CVICU experience, strong critical care skills including titrating drips and interpreting telemetry, and the ability to manage complex cardiac patients. The position offers 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage, and requires flexibility to float to other inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU). Strict compliance with facility policies and certifications is mandatory.
