• Contract length: 6 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour days
• Hours per week: 48

Unit details

• Unit: MedSurg/TELE
• Beds: 28
• Patient ratio goal: 1:5, can flex to 1:6 depending on staffing
• Charge nurse: Available on all shifts and takes a smaller assignment
• Nurse aides: Goal is 3 per shift, usually 2
• Floating: Travelers float first and may float to other MedSurg acuity areas

Required qualifications

• BLS
• Strong IV start skills
• 2 years MedSurg/Tele experience
• Ability to read and interpret tele
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• RN experience with cardiac drips
• Open to floating
• Flexible with scheduling
• EOW required

Preferred

• Experience with occasional trachs
• Prior travel experience
• Experience in a very busy hospital
• Strong MedSurg background
• Positive attitude

Clinical / patient population

• High-demand, high-acuity unit
• Pulmonary patients, including cystic fibrosis
• Pneumonia
• Liver patient overflow
• Sickle cell patients with high pain-management needs
• Geriatrics with active sickness and high fall risk
• MedSurg patients with high needs and high demands

Equipment / therapies

• Nasal cannula
• CPAP and BiPAP home regimen
• Occasional trachs
• Titratable / set-rate drips may include heparin, amiodarone, and blood transfusions

Scheduling / operations

• Manager makes the schedule
• No self-scheduling
• Call: none
• Holiday coverage follows core staff rotation
• PTO cannot be accepted from 12/10 through the first week in January

• 2 days

Dress code

• Teal scrubs

• Must be able to hit the ground running
• Unit is described as busy / large Level 1 Trauma
• Daily parking is available at additional cost
