Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Shift Details

• Night Shift, 3 shifts per 2 weeks (3x12 hours)
• Hours: 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM
• Total Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Unit Beds: 46
• Patient Diagnoses: Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, Respiratory Illness, Respiratory Arrest
• Patient Volume: Approximately 140 visits per day

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Minimum 4 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Work Requirements

• Weekend shifts: Every other weekend required
• Holidays: Required as scheduled
• Floating: Within unit and specialty as needed
• On-call: Not required

Compliance and Documentation

• Background check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start; felonies within 5 years are disqualifying
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Physical exam: Required within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and health screenings required within 72 hours of contract signing:

  • TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination)
  • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (for 2025-26 season)
• Fit test for respiratory masks within 1 year of start
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment history verification for previous 5 years
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
• Age-specific competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
• Color blindness test (if applicable)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Passport-style photo for badge
• Signed job description and confidentiality agreements prior to start
• Badge application to be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
• Dress code review prior to start
• Latex allergy questionnaire completion
• Epic training test-out form may be required based on prior Epic experience

This position offers a challenging and fast-paced environment in the Emergency Department with a focus on critical care patients. Candidates must be prepared for night shifts and weekend/holiday work as scheduled. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for highly experienced nurses.
