PICU

Overview

• Travel/contract role in Newark, New Jersey
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 36 hours per week
• 13-week contract
• Unit has 19 beds
• Patient age groups: adolescents, infants, pediatrics
• Ratios: PICU 1:1–2; Stepdown 1:3; Pediatrics 1:4–5; NICU 1:2–3
• Floating is required within the traveler’s skillset

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Jersey
• PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
• PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• PALS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of cardiac experience in critical care
• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Accessing and managing ports
• Central line blood draw
• Central line and implanted line care
• PICC line management
• Administration of blood and blood products
• TPN and lipids administration
• Acute and chronic renal failure management
• Peritoneal dialysis and CAPD
• Pre and post hemodialysis care
• Experience with Epic
• Must be able to work every other weekend
• Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, per unit needs
• Locals are accepted at the same rate

Clinical Skills

• IV therapy/phlebotomy, including starting and maintaining IVs
• Accessing/managing ports
• Central line blood draw and central line/implanted line care
• PICC line management
• Blood and blood product administration
• TPN/lipids
• Acute/chronic renal failure care
• Peritoneal dialysis/CAPD
• Pre/post hemodialysis
• Urinary catheter insertion/management
• Anti-seizure medications
• Antiarrhythmics
• Continuous sedation
• IV vasopressors
• Pediatric dosage calculations
• Insulin administration
• Use of Broselow system
• Assist with lumbar puncture
• Hydrocephalus/VP shunt care
• Assist/manage intubation
• Acute airway care
• Ventilated patient care
• BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
• Suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Tracheostomy care
• Chest tube management
• Telemetry monitoring on the unit
• Medtronic pacemakers
• Isolation precautions/PPE
• Wound assessment/care
• Gastric tube management
• NG tube insertion/management

Preferred

• 1 year of cardiac experience

• Navy blue scrubs
• Candidates must submit a screenshot confirming RTO and schedule requests; no requests will be approved after offer
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
