Job Opportunity: Anesthesia Technician (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Specialty: Surgical Services

Shift: 40 hours, Day shift
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • No direct patient care.
  • Responsible for bringing supplies into the room.
  • Must have knowledge of procedures and equipment used in anesthesia.
  • Ratio: 1:4 on weekdays, 1:2 on weekends.
  • Preferred experience with Pediatrics.
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers.
  • Scrub color: Blue.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Endotracheal tubes, Emergency intubations, Intubating LMA, Intubation
  • IV insertion, Patient positioning, Patient transport
  • Anesthesia machine operation, check out, and troubleshooting
  • Breathing circuits, ET Tube, Glidescope/video laryngoscope
  • IV catheters/arterial line catheters, IV pumps
  • Laryngoscope blades, Rapid infuser
  • Standard monitors, Transport monitor/equipment
  • Assisting anesthesia provider in critical situations
  • Operating room safety (electrical, fire, infection control)
  • Room set-up for first case, Room turnover, Time out process for procedures
  • Arterial, Central venous access, and Vascular Access
  • Modes of anesthesia: General, MAC, Regional
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be AHA or ARC certified
  • Cer.A.T certification preferred but not required

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • E-Verify and I9 documentation required upon hire
  • Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
  • Education verification for highest degree as required by position
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within last year (or annual questionnaire if prior positive)
    • Documentation of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccine or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use during patient encounters
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)

Additional Requirements

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
  • Skills checklist and competency exams required prior to start and updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required within 3 years, passing score 80%+
  • Color blindness testing required (online or in-person)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialties (not applicable for this role)
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Facility-specific modules must be completed prior to start

This is a travel/contract Anesthesia Technician position in Washington, DC, requiring 13 weeks commitment.
