Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in all areas of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit, including antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care.
- Perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens using ALGO 5 Machine.
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines.
- Weekend requirement: work every other weekend.
- Float responsibilities include serving as sitter when needed and floating to a nearby facility (27 miles away) when census allows.
- No call required.
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC.
- Scrubs provided.
- Holiday coverage required with flexibility for staffing demands.
- No Return to Office (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients and Maternal-Newborn care
- Certifications:
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate or NCC C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- Proficient in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float within the hospital and to a nearby facility as needed.
- Must be trained to complete newborn infant hearing screens.
- Must work every other weekend and be flexible for holiday coverage.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- E-Verify completion as per contract requirements.
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, with multiple components (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, etc.).
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for L&D and pediatric placements.
- MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start if applicable.
- Complete a physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1, with proof or exemption submitted by December 1.
- Fit mask test (Honeywell DC365N95HC) required on-site for applicable roles.
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and specialty competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start, with passing score of at least 80%.
- Review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and others prior to start.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years of work history, no gaps.
Work Environment
- 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms.
- Nurses provide comprehensive care including antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating and scrub roles, newborn care, and couplet care.
Important Notes
- Start date preferred: June 15.
- No return to office (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
- Holiday coverage is mandatory with flexibility to meet staffing needs.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with required certifications and skills, who are flexible with floating and weekend/holiday coverage, and who meet all compliance and immunization requirements.
