Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment

Location: El Paso, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Night Shift)
Hours per Week: 36
Call Requirements: None
Weekends: 2 per pay period


Unit Overview

  • Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (Telemetry)
  • Number of Beds: 24
  • Staffing: 41 total staff
    • Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 5 RNs, 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 5 patients
  • Equipment: GE remote telemetry
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech
  • Permanent Positions Available: Yes

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Certification

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an RN in a specialty relevant to Progressive Care/Telemetry
  • Competency in interpreting cardiac rhythms is mandatory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience (Charge Nurse)
  • Critical care experience
  • Monitor technician experience

Typical Patient Population & Procedures

  • Cardiac cath lab post PACU patients (including left/right heart caths, pacemakers, Watchman devices, ablations)
  • Stroke patients
  • COVID-19 patients

Work Environment & Culture

  • Team-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
  • Adaptable to change and open to constructive criticism
  • Comfortable working under a hands-on director

Dress Code

  • Scrub Colors: Galaxy blue for nurses, Hunter green for PCTs
  • Not acceptable: hooded sweaters/jackets, full pull-over sweaters, fanny packs, Crocs shoes

Unit Policies

  • Mandatory huddle at nurse’s station at shift start (06:45 or 18:45) with full attendance expected
  • Bedside shift report required
  • Updating patient communication boards during bedside shift report is expected

Additional Notes

  • This is a travel nurse position with no call responsibilities.
  • Prior travel experience is not specified as required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
