Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel Position
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide independent nursing care in a Level 4 NICU setting, caring for neonatal patients ranging from feeder growers to complex ICU cases. Manage routine and complex care, make appropriate assignments, and delegate to other care providers as needed.
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekends per six weeks, including two Mondays and two Fridays
Patient Ratio
- 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4 (with CNA support for 1:4 assignments)
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation)
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor side effects and effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
- Meet organizational competency standards including leadership expectations
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last year
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Current BLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current STABLE certification (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants)
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Orientation & Onboarding
- New experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within 30 days of hire
- Precepted by trained staff with competency validations including organizational entry and Perinatal Services-specific competencies
- Completion of all annual competency verifications required
Additional Notes
- This position requires working night shifts and meeting weekend coverage requirements
- CNA support is provided for higher patient ratios to ensure quality care
