Job Description

• Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the general direction of a physician and department supervisor.
• Specialize in two or more areas such as Cardiac, Vascular, or General ultrasound.
• Procedures include diagnostic exams of the heart, vascular systems, and various organs and soft tissues.
• May perform invasive ultrasound techniques such as use of approved contrast agents, paracentesis, thoracentesis, biopsy exams, line placement, and thrombin injection exams according to policy.
• Operate sophisticated ultrasonic imaging units and reading/reporting systems.
• Review images for identification, technique, and completeness following standards from relevant professional bodies.
• Provide training and mentorship to new staff and sonography students.
• Participate in educational sessions and contribute technical knowledge to students, allied health professionals, and physicians.
• May be required to float to other departments within competency.
• Responsible for maintaining equipment, checking emergency carts, and meeting accreditation and regulatory requirements.
• Work schedule includes 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 am - 7:30 pm), covering weekends, holidays, and rotating weekdays; no call required.
• Required to pick up one additional shift during the schedule period.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, including experience within the last year.
• Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), specifically Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).

Additional Information

• Must demonstrate proficiency in ultrasound imaging systems and hospital computer systems.
• Provide patient care across all age groups: infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
• Participate actively in accreditation and re-accreditation processes.
• This role requires technical decision-making to ensure optimal sonographic image quality.
• May be responsible for mentoring sonography students from accredited programs.

Work Environment

• Position may require working in the ultrasound department or other hospital departments/floors as needed.
• Schedule varies based on department needs and may include weekends and holidays.
