Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with a 32-bed Neuro ICU unit. The role requires strong neuro assessment skills, ICP monitoring experience, and the ability to float across ICU and Telemetry units.

Unit Details

• Unit: Neuro ICU
• Beds: 32
• Patient Ratio: 1:2
• EMR System: Cerner
• Charge Nurse Role: Yes (does not take patients)
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
• Floating: Required to float between all ICU floors and Telemetry units (patient load 4:1 on Tele units)
• Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
• Telemetry Monitors: Phillips
• Ventilator Support: Yes
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 coverage
• Pharmacy: 24/7 coverage
• Holidays: Work into core staff rotation
• Scrub Color: Any non-offensive color or print; steel grey preferred for Neuro floors

Patient Population

• Critical care patients with neurological diagnoses
• Procedures include craniotomies, brain tumor removals and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license (RN)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds)
• Level 1 Trauma experience required
• Prior travel experience: 3-6 months travel experience required in Neuro ICU or ED
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Experience with Cerner EMR system
• Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience
• Must pass a Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
• Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab required)
• Ability to maintain sterile field during procedures
• Must comply with facility policies: no facial piercings, natural hair colors only, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Must have own vehicle for travel assignments

Additional Information

• Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
• Cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
• Must have been off permanent staff for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
• Teaching hospital environment; may work with nursing students
• Floating includes Medical-Surgical Telemetry floors
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period, plus holiday coverage based on unit needs

• Candidates not competent in sterile technique or required nursing skills are not a good fit
• SIMs Lab is pass/fail; failure may result in termination
• Facility enforces strict onboarding deadlines; incomplete files will delay start dates
