ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN - Quincy, Illinois
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours starting at 7 AM
- Scheduling: Schedules out 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling not guaranteed but can be discussed with leadership
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday for both shifts)
- Holiday Requirement: Included in holiday rotation with core staff
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: May float occasionally to PCU or CVICU, mostly as help-all roles
Experience & Licensure
- Required Specialty Experience: At least 1 year of critical care experience (ICU/CCU)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license required
- Trauma Experience: Must have experience in Level I or Level II Trauma center
- Facility Size Experience: Experience working in hospitals with 300+ beds preferred
Certifications
- Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Preferred: PALS
Unit Information
- Unit: ICU (2nd floor MICU and some SICU)
- Beds: 16
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Charge Nurse: Day shift usually a staff nurse; night shift sometimes house supervisor who takes a smaller assignment
- Nurse Aids: Yes, present on unit
- Hospitalists/Intensivists: 24/7 coverage by intensivists and hospitalists (MD & NP)
- Respiratory Therapist: Assigned 24/7 to ICU/PCU
- Respiratory Equipment: Full range including vents, CPAP, BiPAP
- Telemetry: Tele monitor tech monitors; RNs interpret strips (Draeger monitors)
Patient Types & Procedures
- Common diagnoses and patient types include:
- CRRT (prismaflex), rotaprone, TTM (Arctic Sun)
- Mass transfusions, train of 4 monitoring, frequent paralysis
- ECMO at times, 24-hour EEG monitoring, EVD, LP drain
- Neurosurgery patients, MTP, trauma cases (drownings, tractor rollovers, fractures, MVAs), spinal injuries, sepsis, DKA, post-surgical recovery, COVID, post-heart cath care
- Bedside procedures such as tracheostomies, chest tube insertion, bronchoscopies, arterial line insertion
- Organ recovery (procurement only, no transplants)
Skills & Responsibilities
- Experience preferred in pulling sheaths and CRRT
- Must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Precedex, pressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation, common ICU drips)
- RNs interpret telemetry strips
- Dress code: Black scrubs
- Orientation: 1-12 hour shift on unit of hire plus a 12-14 hour first day for computer-based modules and general orientation
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with critical care experience, trauma center exposure, and comfort managing complex patients and procedures in a busy Level I/II trauma hospital setting.
