Schedule

• 12-hour nights
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Rotates every other holiday

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification

Experience / Skills

• Post-op care experience
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to ask for help when needed
• Good bedside manner
• Team-player mindset

Unit Details

• Surgical acute unit
• 63 beds
• Typical patient mix includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 4–5 on days and 5–6 on nights, with possible increases to 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights if needed

Responsibilities / Workflow

• Does not require RN drip titration
• Heparin is the only common titratable or set-rate drip
• RNs manage inhalers and may place patients on CPAP
• Bedside RNs do not read telemetry strips

Support / Staffing

• Charge nurses do not take an assignment
• House supervisor is available 24/7
• Patient care tech support is available
• Travelers float first and may float to units with the same level of experience

Orientation

• 2 shifts with a preceptor
• 1 additional 12-hour shift for electronic medical record and professional orientation with the unit educator

Submission Requirements

• Last four digits of SSN
• Middle initial
• Requested time off
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Notes

• Local placements within 50 miles are accepted
• Local clinicians are subject to an adjusted rate
• No call or standby requirement
• Any scrub color is allowed
