Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical ICU / Progressive Care Unit

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Care for ventilated patients and critically ill patients with diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.
  • Work on a mixed acuity unit with both ICU and progressive care patients; primarily progressive care patients.
  • Perform procedures such as initiating and titrating IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), assist with intubations and line placements.
  • Use equipment including Phillips heart monitors, Epic (EMR), Pyxis, EKG machine, and dopplers.
  • Float to other ICUs, progressive care units, and med-surg units while maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.

Schedule

  • Three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
  • Never work alone

Unit Details

  • Medical ICU: 24 beds
  • Progressive Care Unit: 12 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Progressive Care: 1:3 or 1:4 with transfers or medical patients
    • ICU: 1:2 or 1:3 with transfers or medical patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience, with MICU experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior travel experience preferred
  • Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities preferred

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves allowed
  • Onboarding includes workforce development training, policy review, and Epic EMR training (1 day unit onboarding)
  • Position requires flexibility, critical thinking, teamwork, and strong background in medical and critical care patients
