Respiratory Care Practitioner

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Disassemble, wash, rinse, dry, and package respiratory equipment.
  • Evaluate patient respiratory care outcomes according to care plans.
  • Serve as a role model demonstrating clinical judgment, technical skills, and knowledge in respiratory care.
  • Prepare, test, and check respiratory therapy equipment for safe operation; report malfunctions.
  • Maintain and process respiratory equipment.
  • Accurately document respiratory care on flow sheets and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Complete assessments on ventilator patients and others receiving respiratory care services.
  • Recommend timely interventions and further treatment or referrals as needed.
  • Record procedures, patient responses, and compliance with sleep therapy documentation; communicate adverse effects to respiratory care practitioners and physicians.
  • Evaluate patients for routine respiratory therapy in inpatient units and the Emergency Room.
  • Obtain and analyze arterial, venous, and capillary blood gases.
  • Assist with cleaning respiratory care equipment and stocking supplies on inpatient units.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois
  • Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
