Job Description

Provide specialized nursing care to patients on a medical-surgical stepdown unit. Utilize knowledge from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Care is culturally based and age-specific, adhering to the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

Unit Description

• 29-bed medical stepdown unit specializing in care for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure (CHF), and other low-risk cardiac/chest pain diagnoses.
• Provides general medical services including cardiology, renal, endocrinology, general medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and oncology.
• Staff receive special training in non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (Bi-PAP, C-PAP, A-PAP).
• Responsibilities include infusion therapy, transfusions, injections, and central line care.
• Patient care assistants support activities of daily living (ADLs), point-of-care glucose testing, and 12 Lead EKGs.
• The unit is a dedicated stroke unit; all RNs are NIH stroke scale certified.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Diploma of Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Licensure & Certifications

• Ohio RN License or Compact RN License
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• ACLS (American Heart Association)
