Job Opportunity: Staff Nurse Emergency Department
Location: Norwich, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing patient health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN ensures compliance with professional nursing standards and promotes a patient-centered, healing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients as primary or accountable nurse.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
- Administer medications safely using pharmacology knowledge.
- Manage resources effectively, including staffing, time, and supplies.
- Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies.
- Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, unit councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
- Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
- Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
- Support learning for new employees and students.
- Perform Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator duties when assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Childbirth and Advanced Life Support (CALS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Experience with Epic electronic health records system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
Shift Details
- Day shift, 12 hours per day
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend schedule
