ICU stepdown unit that runs more like an ICU
20 beds
Patient mix includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, and ortho surgeries
Also sees pre/post OB with complications
Patient ages: adolescent, adult, geriatric

Valid RN license in North Carolina
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIHSS
Experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips
Conscious sedation experience
Telemetry interpretation of dysrhythmias
Management of dysrhythmias
Use of Rapid Response Teams
IV insulin protocols
Blood Product Administration
Central line care and management
PICC line management
Heparin Protocols
Experience with peripheral line care/management
Experience with CVA
Experience with chest tubes using Emerson/Pleur-evac
Experience with external CPAP/BIPAP
Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
Experience with nasal cannula
Experience with non-invasive airway management
Experience with tracheostomy management
Experience with isolation precautions
Experience with IV start
Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Only one pressor drip per patient on the unit
Drips used on the unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
A-lines, BIPAPs, chest tubes, and trachs are used on the unit
No vents on the unit
