Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float required between Postpartum and Antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) is mandatory.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Functions include acting as Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
- Medications commonly administered include Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks and adjusted to meet unit needs; work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington State.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least 3 years of experience in high-risk Labor and Delivery.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a high acuity, high pace environment.
- Current certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring).
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide sex offender, education verification, and other standard checks.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to infection control policies.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Respiratory safety clearance required for travel candidates, medically cleared annually for respirator use.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually.
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
Additional Requirements
- Must acknowledge and comply with float policy (may be required to float to other nearby facilities).
- Pre-approved time off handled on a case-by-case basis.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high acuity environment.
- Average daily census approximately 15 patients; 31 rooms and beds on unit.
Summary
This is a travel contract opportunity for experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses with strong high-risk and newborn care skills. Candidates must meet strict clinical, licensure, and certification requirements and be prepared to work night shifts in a busy, high-acuity L&D unit with floating responsibilities. Prior travel experience is not required.
