Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Labor and Delivery (L&D)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours each per week (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 48 hours
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in Labor and Delivery
- First-time travelers accepted
- No local candidates accepted within 100 miles
- Pending New Mexico nursing license accepted at time of submission
- On-call requirement: Yes, 12 to 24 hours over 4 weeks (4x12s or 3x12s)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to antepartum and postpartum units
- Block scheduling: Not guaranteed
- COVID-19 vaccine: Optional (facility reports vaccination status)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC (not RQI)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC (not RQI)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – RQI not accepted; required for L&D and Mother/Baby units
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – required for behavioral health units, including pediatrics and home health
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC) – verify with recruiter
Special Skills and Experience
- Must have experience in a large Labor and Delivery unit/facility
- Required skills: Circulate and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)
- Experience with 3rd and 4th stage postpartum care, baby nurse duties, and meconium deliveries
- Familiarity with special procedures: cerclage, version, cesarean section (C/S), postpartum tubal ligation (PPTL), external/internal fetal monitoring, artificial rupture of membranes (AROM), medically assisted deliveries, cesarean hysterectomy, neonatal palliative care, nitrous oxide use, massive transfusion protocol, malignant hyperthermia management
Facility and Work Environment
- Level I Trauma Center, Children’s Hospital, Teaching Hospital
- Acute care, short-term facility with 554 staffed beds
- Charting system: Cerner
- Purple scrubs provided

Licensing and Documentation Requirements
- Valid New Mexico RN license (original with 3D seal required onsite) or pending license accepted
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Social Security card may be requested for verification
- Background checks: 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation), education verification
- Drug screen: Negative result within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Physical exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask test: Required within 1 year of start; only specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodations available if needed
- TB testing: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or PPD within 1 year; additional requirements for past positive responders
- Immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required; boosters may delay start
- Hepatitis B – declination, series, or titer acceptable
- Flu vaccine – required year-round with exemptions accepted; documentation must be on file prior to start
- COVID-19 vaccine: Not required but facility reports vaccination status; upload series or declination
Compliance and Testing
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for L&D and other units; must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams required
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
- Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
Scheduling and Contract Notes
- Contract lengths available: 36 or 48 hours per week options
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work at this facility
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week starting 10/30/2025
- Return to work restrictions: Absences longer than 7 days require approval

- Two professional references within the last three years
- Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification
- NRP certification
- Proficient in circulate skills in Labor and Delivery settings
