Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Assignment may include being part of an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or serve on relief teams.
- Open to 3x12 hour shifts with potential for occasional 4th shifts.
- First-time travelers may be accommodated depending on experience level.
Patient Diagnoses
- Cardiogenic shock
- Decompensated heart failure
- STEMI/NSTEMI
- Post cardiac arrest
- TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Pulmonary embolism
Unit Details & Special Procedures
- High acuity heart failure unit at a heart transplant center
- Cardiology critical care
- Pericardial drains/windows
- Targeted temperature management
- Pacemaker placement
Special Equipment
- PA catheters
- IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
- Impella
- Transvenous pacemakers
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- EKOS catheters
- CADD pumps (Remodulin infusion)
Staffing & Systems
- 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Float requirement to ICUs and Step-Down Units (SDUs)
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- No block scheduling requests
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – ICU
- Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year ICU experience within the last year
Additional Information
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency team assignments and potential extended shifts during emergency events.
- Skills checklist and competency exams specific to specialty required annually.
- Photo for badge must be uploaded within 24 hours of booking (passport-style, recent, color photo).
- Fit mask testing (N95) required within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required unless assigned to ICU.
This position is ideal for ICU Registered Nurses with cardiology critical care experience who are flexible and able to work in a high-acuity environment with advanced cardiac support devices.
