Registered Nurse – Hematology/Oncology (Outpatient Clinic)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
Average Daily Census: 70 patients
Job Description
- Work in an outpatient clinic focused on classical hematology (bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, DVTs).
- No malignant hematology or oncology patients are seen in this clinic.
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, performing phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, phone calls, and case management.
- Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs.
- No chemotherapy or infusion administration in this setting.
- Patient population: Adults with benign hematology diagnoses only.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of hematology/oncology nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Phlebotomy skills
- Experience assisting with bone marrow biopsies
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology clinic experience preferred.
- Additional certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Clinic is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day.
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs (not provided).
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional documentation required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if titer negative), seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules including medication safety, confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgment, annual compliance training, and non-Novant health worker orientation (for NC travel candidates).
- Candidates must complete EPIC training or test out option if eligible.
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire).
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel and acute care candidates.
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation.
- Interview with the hiring manager is required before offer.
- This is an outpatient clinic setting; no chemotherapy or infusion administration duties.
- Candidate must be able to perform bone marrow biopsy assistance and central line care.
- Manual differentials are done by lab personnel, not the nurse.
- Candidate must be comfortable working with adult patients with benign hematology conditions only.
