Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- 12-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Care for patients with life-threatening neurological and neurosurgical conditions including:
- Central nervous system tumors
- Complex spine surgery
- Acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
- Endovascular interventions
- Traumatic brain injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Neuromuscular diseases
- Status epilepticus
- Central nervous system infections
Schedule
- Night shifts
- Every other weekend and every other holiday
- 36 or 48 hours available
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Time off approval up to 40 hours
Required Experience & Skills
- Must have experience with Epic electronic health record system
- NIH Stroke Certification required (can submit with certification pending)
- Must adhere to facility float policy
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Virginia RN license (can submit with license pending)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, or AA CME accepted)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Neuro ICU experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of I-9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
- Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl) within 2 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- 2-step TB test or Qgold (Chest X-ray if positive)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions allowed during flu season)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation (required for adult inpatient RN positions)
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit assignment
- Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Various facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start
