Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: No floating between units or facilities required
  • Facility Type: Free Standing Emergency Room with 14 rooms including a Resuscitation Room
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • PALS issued by American Heart Association
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Approval for block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
  • Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Annual physical exam within 90 days of start, confirming ability to work without restrictions
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly preferred but not required; if declined, a vaccination declination form must be completed
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (August 1 - March 31) or medical/religious exemption; documentation must be uploaded by December 5 deadline

Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the same unit
  • Complete employment application/resume with all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Background check within 1 year including:
    • SSN trace
    • County and state criminal checks (including South Carolina)
    • National criminal and sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
  • Primary source license verification showing active, unencumbered status with no pending actions
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • First Day Instructions and orientation modules (must be completed before start)
    • Photo for badge (passport-style, frontal view, solid light background)
    • Confidentiality and security agreement
    • Contractor forms
    • Unit-specific job description
  • Radiation badge not required for ER RN

Additional Notes

  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; peak months August and September
  • Orientation modules take approximately 2 hours and must be completed on a computer (not a phone)
  • Fit testing for masks will be done onsite during orientation; no need to provide prior fit test
  • All certifications must be current and not expire within 30 days of assignment start; renewals or scheduled courses required if expiring soon

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with prior travel contract experience, who hold the required South Carolina licensure and certifications, and have proficiency with Epic EHR in a community hospital emergency setting.
