Travel/Contract Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse with experience in OB, Mother/Baby, and L&D. The nurse will work in all areas of the LDRP unit, providing antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care. The unit includes a 15-bed LDRP with triage bays and operating rooms. Nurses also perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and OB nursing.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Work Schedule & Duties
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend.
- Float: May float to other hospital locations (~27 miles away) as needed.
- No call responsibilities.
- No Return to Office (RTO) for the first two weeks of the contract.
- EMR system used: EPIC.
- Scrubs provided.
- Training provided for newborn infant hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine).

- NRP (AAP or American Medical Learning Center)
- AWHONN Intermediate and/or NCC C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Michigan.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start (no exceptions).
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine.
- Proof of Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer).
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or facility declination.
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
- Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC).
Background & Documentation Requirements
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18.
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for L&D placements.
- MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start.
- Employment application with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager.
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit.
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment.
- Code of Conduct review and signed acknowledgment.
- Appearance Standards Policy reviewed prior to start.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP)
- OB/GYN nursing experience
- Certification from AWHONN or NCC
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) skills
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with neonate, infant, and maternal-fetal patients
- Proficient in OR circulating skills
- Skilled in fetal heart monitoring (FHM) and triage
Additional Notes
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN staffing guidelines.
- Nurses may be required to float as sitter or to other hospital locations based on census and need.
- No call duties.
- Training provided for newborn hearing screening.
