Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float Pool position covering various ICU and intermediate care units including:
- Medical ICU
- Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU
- Coronary Care Unit
- Surgical Trauma ICU (Level 1)
- Neuro & Neurosurgery ICU
- Critical Care and Intermediate Care Special Pathogens Unit (COVID)
- Thoracic Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
- Surgical Trauma Intermediate Unit
- Neuro & Neurosurgery Intermediate Unit
- ED Boarders (patients admitted but boarding in ED prior to room assignment)
- Rotating Days/Nights schedule
- Work hours options: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Up to 40 hours approved for time off
- Must adhere to facility’s float policy
- Can submit application with Virginia license pending
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Level 1 Trauma Experience strongly preferred

- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but must be documented)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
- Pass/Fail Cardiac Rhythm Assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation
- Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually
- Professional appearance guidelines and traveler compliance documents must be reviewed and acknowledged
Additional Notes
- Candidates with latex allergy must complete a specific questionnaire
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit assignment
- Some units may require additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification, or Chemotherapy certification (check unit-specific requirements)
- Behavioral Health nurses require CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
- Facility uses Epic EHR system
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with floating across multiple ICU and intermediate care units, with strong trauma experience and flexibility in scheduling.
